The local court of Rio de Janeiro has decided in favor of the compulsory hospitalization of a french couple which showed symptoms of Covid-19.

The couple was admitted to the City Hospital Hugo Miranda, in Paraty, RJ, presenting symptoms matching the ones caused by the newest strain of coronavirus. When the couple attempted to refuse hospitalization and leave the building, the hospital referred the dispute to the local court, which decided in favor of refusing discharge of the patients.

This is another example of the current panic spree regarding Covid-19. Although the disease should not be taken lightly, according to the WHO, there is no need for drastic measures on countries with no widespread record of Covid-19 – such as Brazil.
